In this POSTCARD, Ian Wright sits down with co-host Justine Shapiro to relive his extraordinary 1995 expedition to GREENLAND, one of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth. Ian takes us behind the scenes of his time in the vast, sparsely populated island — from dogsledding through Arctic tundra with flatulent, battle-scarred huskies to attempting an Eskimo roll in dangerously freezing waters, and spending three unforgettable days stranded on a reindeer farm with a very colourful Icelandic farmer. Along the way, Ian shares the moments that never made the final edit, reflects on the ancient Inuit culture that has survived thousands of Arctic winters, and reveals why Greenland — a country the size of Europe with just 55,000 people and not a single road connecting its towns — left a mark on him so deep it found its way onto his canvas.

As of 2025–2026, the population of Greenland is approximately 56,500 to 57,000, making it the least densely populated country in the world. Roughly 89% of residents are Greenlandic Inuit, with about 19,900 people living in the capital, Nuuk. It is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
